The Swiss-MIS Masterclass in Laparoscopic Colorectal Surgery:

A hands-on experience 


Swiss-MIS (Swiss Minimally Invasive Surgery) organizes a unique 3-week course in laparoscopic colorectal surgery. The selected fellow rotates in 3 Swiss hospitals, where he shadows a specialist colorectal surgeon. Swiss-MIS and the participating centers guarantee that the fellow will scrub in 2-3 colectomies per center: he assists the first one, and operates under assistance the next 2. 

Swiss-MIS will offer 2 Masterclasses, which will take place at the hospitals during October-December 2024:

The Competition is open for applications,
deadline is June 30th 2024.

Travel and housing expenses are reimbursed by Swiss-MIS for up to CHF 1’500/ fellow.

 


The ideal fellow:

  • is in a training program with good perspectives for a career in a Swiss hospital
  • has a main interest in colorectal surgery
  • and has already acquired a good level in laparoscopy (assisted at least 10, performed under assistance at least 5 laparoscopic colectomies)

  • motivation letter (state your future goals)
  • CV (include courses in laparoscopic surgery, publications, conference abstracts)
  • Copy of FMH in surgery
  • Swiss-MIS (formerly SALTC) membership or application
  • log book – catalogue of operations:
    • specify the number of open and laparoscopic colectomies performed as primary surgeon.
    • specify the total number of general and colorectal laparoscopic procedures performed as primary surgeon or assistant
    • submit at least 5 blinded operation protocols required, where applicant is first operator in a laparoscopic colorectal procedure
  • recommendation letter by the head of surgery where the candidate works, confirming that:
    • the candidate has the required technical skills
    • the candidate is authorized to leave the clinic for 3 weeks
